Picky Picky Picky

Ok, inspired by Raven to write this, however it's kind of my reason why I can't/don't eat like she does...and therefore do not look anywhere as fabulous as she does (read her blog post here).

As long as I can remember, I've been a terribly picky eater.  It's ridiculous.  I only eat a few meats, and only certain cuts/types of that meat.
Turkey: ground, or lunch meat (the only type of meat sandwich I'll eat)
Chicken: breast, boneless/skinless
Steak: but not just any ol' steak.  Gotta be a lean cut
Pork: roast

I try to avoid ground beef, it's disgusting.  Have you watched your ground beef as it browned?  I use ground turkey because you don't have any grease to drain off of it, like you do beef.  Plus, if you will try ground turkey in your spaghetti or tacos you will actually be able to feel the difference in the way you feel right after eating.  You don't feel the same.  I can't describe it, but you feel better.  So much better than after eating beef.  Plus, it seems to digest easier...I'll leave it at that lol.

The only condiment I eat is bar-b-que sauce.  I hate ketchup, mustard, mayonaise.  The smell of mayonnaise even makes my stomach flip!  I can't stand the smell of salad dressings, which is good because I also can't stomach lettuce of any type.  Seriously, it must be a texture thing, because I can't chew lettuce without gagging.
I also eat a limited variety of veggies.  But, the vegetables I do eat, I could eat my weight in.
I love green beans.  Especially fresh...grilled or sauteed.  But, I could still much an entire can of organic green beans.  Yes, how much of an oxymoron is that?  Canned organic...lol.  But, yum.  Same with canned organic green peas, carrots, and corn.  I love boiled carrots, but not crock pot carrots.
I can also eat my weight in edimame.  Like a squirrel with a dumptruck full of nuts...heaven.

Sadly, my veggie list is easily twice as long as what fruit I'll eat.  I will only eat Granny Smith apples.  But not just any Granny Smith.  No, no, that's too easy.  They have to have no bruising and be flawless.  J has complained that it takes me 5 minutes to pick out a dozen apples at the store.  But, other than that he doesn't complain...he can eat his weight in apples lol.  That's about it on the fruits.  Sad, huh?

I love pasta, especially fettuccini alfredo, spaghetti, and macaroni and cheese.  Yup, that's the end of that list too.

See?  I have issues.  I don't know what it is.  It takes a miracle for me to try a new food.  How did I come to try edimame?  Ashley's wedding rehearsal dinner.  We're all sitting around, eating Thai food.  Yes, I was in a Thai restaurant...but I ate a steak with teriyaki (wikipedia says that's how you spell it) sauce, and white rice.  LOL!  Anyway, Ashley had ordered an appetizer of edimame, as it passed by me my best friend of 23 years (Damn we're old Ash!) yells down the table at me, "You don't like edimame?!  Have you ever tried it?!  You like butter beans?  They taste just like butter beans!"  "Pass me the edimame!!" was my reply.  I'm not afraid of drawing attention to myself.  So, everyone watched as I had to be instructed how to eat the bean out of the fuzzy little pod.  Everyone watched still as I popped that bean in my mouth.  "More edimame please!!"  Yeah, I really can be a ham.  I've eaten edimame like a cracked out squirrel (J's description) ever since.  It's fabulously delicious.

I wish I ate healthier.  I really do.  I also have a problem with how expensive healthy food is.  I want to eat fresh foods, not prepared foods chock full of preservatives.  How do I do this?!  I have texture aversions, and taste aversions.  Then, just fear-of-something-tasting-disgusting aversion.
J and I have talked about planting our own garden, nothing big or fancy.  I also would love to find someone who sells organic meat around here.  But, when I've looked online I can't find it.  Ugh.  I don't want to become a farmer just to eat healthfully....picky, but healthy.

Any ideas, please please let me know!
