How I make that money, Honey

Thought this was a cute link up and decided to join in!

I usually only say that I work in law enforcement, which is true, but to explain more:
I'm a dispatcher for our local sheriff's department.  My job is fun, stressful, crazy, dramatic...you name an adjective and it probably describes my job.
Calls for help or assistance come in to 911 or our non-emergency line, I (along with 2-3 others each shift) chose which deputy or deputies to send to the call.

We have to chose number of units based on their safety and citizen's safety.  We have to chose who to send based on closest available units.  It's second nature to me now, but it was overwhelming when I started this job 2 years ago.
My main concern is deputy safety.  It is my job to make sure they each go home to their respective families and homes at the end of the day.  Of course, I'm equally as concerned with citizen's safety.

My job can be laid back a lot of times, and other times it's fast paced, non stop adrenaline.  I love it.
I joke that it takes a special kind of crazy to do this job, joke but it's about the truth!!

certainly pre-pregnancy lol
me hard at work  haha
I take my job very seriously...honest!

I have talked to people in domestic abuse situations, shooting victims, and the shooting offender, scared old ladies who hear something at their door late at night, and punk thugs who are chasing each other around with weapons.
Our calls run the gamut.  We're in one of the most populated counties in Alabama, and our county houses one of the largest cities.  Our county doesn't have most of the larger city problems that the city police have to deal with...but it bleeds over.
I love my job, and I'm proud to do it!

34 Weeks

34 Weeks!
Seriously?  We're getting close to a month away?!

How far along are you?
34 Weeks

Total weight gain:
I'm not loving it, but I was glad to know my bff who is 4 weeks ahead of me (and smaller than me, plus a far more healthy eater) is about the same amount of weight gain.  I haven't strictly watched my eating, but dang.  I think it's a genetic thing for those of you who don't gain more than 25-30 pounds

How big is baby?:
What to Expect says a Large Cantaloupe! 19-22" 5.5 pounds  HOLY MOLY

Maternity clothes
always...the closer it gets to my due date the less I want to spend any more money on anything new

Stretch marks?:
So far, only on my hiney
I've been applying Palmers Cocoa Butter religiously...hoping that helps matters

Sleep?:
Since going to 3rd shift, you would think my sleep has gotten bad...but nope, better!  I'm sleeping well during the day!

Best moment this week?:
Dr appointment Tuesday!  Pierce was once again unhappy to have the nurse dare bother him to listen to his heart.  He ran from the Doppler again!

Movement?:
Starting to get less, but much more strong

Food cravings?:
ice...love ice

Food aversions?:
Not too bad, kind of depends on the day,

Labor signs?:
NO!  Just Braxton-Hicks
Some of them are starting to get painful like cramps.  Nothing consistent or regular.

Belly button in or out?:
Still in, but barely!  Which is nuts, my belly button pre-pregnancy is seriously VERY deep

What I miss:
Not being exhausted
my face shape
my body!
Lol, this list could go on and on at this point

What I'm looking forward to:
Meeting this little guy...in 5 weeks

What I'm not looking forward to:
Delivery!  OMG, scared!

Milestone:
Pierce's STRONG movement and punches!
He kicks me if I fold my arms and rest them on the top of my belly, he does not like anything encroaching on his space!

Excited!!

I have known, for quite some time, a HUGE secret that one of the sweetest people in the world has been keeping!  You see, we've talked about her secret forever, for longer than it's been a secret...about how badly she wanted this to occur.  She's been a huge support and happy for me...and now she has her own news!!  AMANDA IS PREGNANT!!
17 weeks to be exact!
This baby is SO very loved and SO very wanted and prayed for.  I couldn't be happier for her!!  I can't wait for her anatomy scan in 3 weeks to know if Pierce will have a little Yankee girlfriend or a Yankee friend!

Amanda had said that she didn't think she was showing...I think she looks amazing (I got a sneak peak on twitter...if you guys aren't following her, you missed the peak!)

Got me to thinking, I made a collage a few weeks ago of my 2nd trimester pics so I thought I'd share

Ya'll go congratulate Amanda!!

33 Weeks!

33 Weeks!!
7 weeks to go!
(actually, since I always post late, 6 weeks 3 days)

The craziest part for me is the difference 2 weeks makes:

How far along are you?
33 Weeks

Total weight gain:
I'm not loving it, but I was glad to know my bff who is 4 weeks ahead of me (and smaller than me, plus a far more healthy eater) is about the same amount of weight gain.  I haven't strictly watched my eating, but dang.  I think it's a genetic thing for those of you who don't gain more than 25-30 pounds

How big is baby?:
What to Expect says a PINEAPPLE!

Best moment this week?:
All of his movement!  J is seeing it and it's wonderful

Movement?:
He's getting SO strong...
So I'm guessing that he's running out of room!

Food cravings?:
nothing that I can think of, other than anything cold because of this heat!

Food aversions?:
Not too bad, kind of depends on the day,
I've started not wanting meat on occasion...no bueno considering that's protein and iron

I've been MIA...but for a good reason!

I've been MIA for about 2 weeks.  Sorry!!  We moved a week ago tomorrow, into our new apartment.  It's really nice having our own space again.  For those of you who don't know, we moved in with J's grandmother on what was supposed to be a very temporary basis while he went through Army basic training and his schooling.  I was to live with her until he was finished and move to be with him.  Well, that idea came to a screeching halt when he was sent home from basic with a heart condition that turned into not one, but two heart conditions!  The Army said, "Thanks, but no thanks, here's your ticket home!"  So, we ended up living with his grandmother for a year.
There was nothing wrong with living with her.  We all got along well, didn't clash, it worked.  But, J & I are really independent people, like our own space.  Read: we like to come home and sit in our pjs...sometimes pjs just means tshirt and undies!  lol!  We were able to save a ton of money, get our budget right, J got settled into a good job...life is good.
We didn't want to bring a screaming new born into her house either.  We desperately needed our own space.  It wasn't going to be right or fair to bring a baby home to her house.  So, we found a very well priced apartment, 2 bed 1 bath, literally 2 miles from work (we work in the same building) to make it that much more convenient for us with one car.  We were relieved to know we'd also be able to afford cable tv and internet!  Something we didn't have in our first apartment!!

So, Friday we started moving.  We found a very reasonably priced moving company, $100/hr for 2 men...however, they sent 3!  Whoot!  We moved all of our furniture to the garage, so it would all be centrally located, more quickly loaded on their truck.  2 hours, and it was moved from the house to the apartment.  So, really not bad at all!  We moved the boxes, and still have a few things to go get.  The odds and ends stuff, cleaning stuff too.  Sully is settled in, he protests occasionally about having to potty while on his leash, since the last year all we've had to do is open the back door and let him go in the yard!  But, with only one accident in the house, he's remembering apartment life!

The day before we moved was my birthday, I'm a year closer to 30!  Lol.  I worked, family celebrated my birthday the Sunday before, it was nice.
Can you tell I don't make much hoopla over my birthday?  lol

We also had a wedding to go to, J was a groomsman and looked SO handsome.  It was his Uncle's wedding, we love them dearly so it was an honor to be there.  Even if it was the day after 2 days of moving for this preggo, and I was puffy and tired, I wouldn't have missed it for the world!
I did, however, try to hide from any photographer that wanted to take pictures.  I think I made it into one group photo...of the VERY large extended family!  Maybe I'll be hard to pick out!!  lol
J and I now wish that we had let someone take our picture while I was in a dress (rare occurance!) and he was in a tux...yup.  Kicking ourselves now for running from the cameras!

Since Then, I've just been trying to recover.  I've hit The Wall.  The 33 week pregnant-this-isn't-fun-anymore wall.
Nothing I do helps the swelling much.  I really should probably watch my sodium intake more...I don't.  I don't add salt to anything, but that doesn't mean I don't eat much sodium.  I'm sure I eat a ton more than I think I do.

I'll be back to normal posting...I'm going to delay my 33 week update until tomorrow, I know I usually do them on Thursdays.
I'm sure I'm forgetting something...but my brain is fried! lol

Hope everyone is doing well!!

Phone Photo Fun Monday

Since I don't typically blog on Mondays...because I don't typically work on Mondays.  So, I'm excited to actually join in with one of my favorite bloggers Ashlee.

at Old Navy trying to find a dress...cute on the hanger...NOT so cute ON.
Husband's assessment?
"You look like a zebra cake"
The dress I ended up with...Not sure about the faces I made

The baby got cold

Deciding on what I think about a dress I was given...not my usual style

So I sent pics to J and my bff
I got mixed reviews

I have the sweetest husband.  Works 6pm-6am, still gets off work and goes to Walmart to get me  a surprise

Sunshine Boy...110 out lately, and this is what he wants to do until he's panting

Seat of my Pants Lasagna
recipe?  Um...
here

Seat of the pants, recipeless lasagna...fail?

My birthday is Thursday, and since J's family always celebrates everyone's birthdays with a dinner and a "party" we all got together last night.  J's grandmother kept asking what I wanted for dinner, and being pregnant, there's really NO way to plan ahead for a dinner meal.  Some days, nothing sounds good...others, everything sounds fantastic.  So, she suggested lasagna...a Stouffer's Lasagna.
source

Now, excuse my snottiness, or don't because I don't care if you think I'm snotty...but my family doesn't do Stouffer's.  Growing up, if we had lasagna, we had homemade.  No if ands or butts about it.  So, I suggested that if J's grandmother wanted to buy the ingredients I'd gladly make the lasagna myself.
Well...um...the ingredients.  Hhhhmmm.  How to explain the ingredients I found when I opened the fridge Saturday night after work.

2 pounds of browned ground chuck (cool, I can work with this, thanks for browning it for me)
1 HUGE jar of Ragu spaghetti sauce (hhhrrm, pretty sure I need crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, and then tomato sauce...thinking...)
No cook lasagna noodles/oven ready (this is the way to go, don't get the kind you have to cook...)
1 pound of shredded mozzarella
1 smallish tub of cottage cheese
1 pound of shredded cheddar cheese
Eggs

Hrm...I'm missing a few ingredients.  Now, I don't have my mother's recipe, but I had read several recipes beforehand and pretty well knew what I needed to do to make lasagna.  And, I had a recipe at the ready in my email...because I was pretty well thinking I'd have a few more ingredients lol

So, at 1230am Sunday morning, I decided to put this lasagna together.
Hrm...what to do exactly.
Hrm
So, I got out a big bowl, dumped the cottage cheese in it, mixed in 2 eggs.  Then I remembered...I needed garlic.  Ideally, I needed garlic cloves to have been browned with the meat.  Dang.  What now?
Of course, I shook an unspecified amount of garlic powder into the cottage cheese/egg mixture!  Problem solved!
Down went the first layer of noodles
Down goes the first layer of cottage cheese/egg/garlic powder mixture
Down goes the first layer of mozzarella cheese
Now for the first layer of meat.  Done.  Looking good.  I'm forgetting a key ingredient, I know I am.  Oh well, I'm flying by the seat of my pants here, let's keep flying.
On to the next layers of everything.
OOHHH, I need onion.  Wait, where does the onion go?  Shouldn't it be browned?  I hate onion, but I know the lasagna will need it.  Damnit!
What does my ingeniousness self do? Find an onion, chop half of it...into rather large bits, hrm, chunks would be a better adjective.
Now...how to get these onions in here without it being too noticeable?
Of course, I mixed it into the 2nd layer of meat.  Yes, I realize that just like the garlic, the onions should have been browned into the meat...but remember, I didn't brown the meat, it was provided for me.  I improvised the best I could!
So, 2nd layer of meat.  Looks pretty oniony...but oh well...flying by the seat of my pants right?
Last layer of noodles and cheese.
Wait, out of my cottage cheese and mozzarella.  I was really hoping to avoid using cheddar on a lasagna.  Who uses cheddar on lasagna in the first place?  Hrm...
Dang, can't avoid it, lasagna has to have cheese on the top.  So, layer of shredded cheddar cheese goes on top.
Done.  Now, to see if it's even edible.

After making this, J and I send a few texts back and forth (he was at work, thankfully...no telling what would have happened if he were home to input his own ideas on this seat of the pants recipe less lasagna!

Me: "Making our lasagna...without a recipe"
J: "Oh boy"
Me: "Maybe it'll be edible"

Getting ready for the dinner yesterday, J asks me how I made the lasagna.  I told him.  "Do I need to go ahead and place a pizza hut order?"  He made so much fun of me, I was crying laughing.  We were both sufficiently scared to eat the lasagna by the time it came out of the oven.

There she is, in all of her hideous glory

Family sits down to dinner...I've told J's aunt and mother a bit about the lack of recipe.  I have my parmesan cheese ready to smother this lasagna and any horrible taste it may have.
The family insists on serving the birthday girl first.  I tell my father-in-law, just a small piece.  J and I start laughing.  I admit to being afraid of the lasagna...now everyone is scared.  Who wouldn't be scared if the cook is scared?!

Ya'll, it wasn't bad.  It was edible.  Dare I say, some bites tasty.
The family ate it up, there was only about a quarter of it left.  They all said it was "good"  "tastes great"
My theory?  They don't know good lasagna...I mean, it was suggested we have Stouffer's.

I text my mother a shortened version of this story...told her that if J and I die, she needs to enjoy my life insurance money.  Spend it on something fun she wouldn't spend her own money on.  LOL!!
When I text her and told her that the family said it was good, what was her reply?
"They're just being kind"
I laughed so hard.  I told her that I didn't think Daddy would even eat it (Daddy is kind of like a dog, he'll eat anything you put in front of him), did she want me to freeze her some and save it for her?
"No thank you"

BAHAHAHA
I am my mother's clone, I'm afraid.  LOL

Next time, I promise, I'm getting Mommie's recipe.
No more Seat of the Pants Lasagna

Out of the mouth of Grandmothers

My dear grandmother is in her late 70s, is an honest to goodness Southern woman.  Fries food, goes to church 3 times a week, more if they have extra services, has her own garden, doesn't eat much fast food because you just don't do that when you can cook for yourself.  When I think of Good Ol Southern Women, Granny comes to mind.  Always has, always will.
During our phone conversation today, somehow we got on the topic of how many children J & I should have.  I say one, J says 2...Granny says "at least 2"  Her reasoning for needing to have at least 2 children?

"If you lose one, you always have another.  If you just have one child, and you lose them, you ain't got nothing left"

Granted, sadly, she has some reason for this theory...She was pregnant 7 times, lost 2 at birth/shortly thereafter, my father was premie, and she lost one son when he was 19 and in a fatal car wreck.  So, she has 4 children now.  But still....WOW.

I text my mother this story, and she tells me, "I got the same speech.  Also I was told when I had my tubes tied that if something happened to your father and I remarried he would want his own children.  I said that he would have to take us as is.  I'd had my last child"
I giggled to myself about the fact that my younger brother is my "backup"...if you use Granny's theory LOL

This woman never ceases to amuse me with her thoughts, her theories.

She's battled cancer and won, she's battling it again, and is winning, again.  She's a strong woman.  Nothing knocks her down.
One of my favorite, gut busting laugh, stories she told me during her first rounds of tough chemotherapy:
"Amanda, I've lost all my hair...all of it.  Head hair, eyebrows, eye lashes...and not just head hair Amanda.  I lost my down-there-hair, too!"
Let me tell ya'll, the last thing you'll ever think about is your grandmother having down-there-hair.  Much less her losing it during chemo and it bothering her enough to tell you about it!!

I could go on and on about things she's said, theories she's had, stories I've heard...But that would take pages and pages.  She's hilarious!!

Friday Letters

Dear World: Having, quite likely, the worst emotional pregnant day yet...it's bad.  Stay out of my way.

Dear Pierce: I was beginning to wonder if you had feet and legs, until today, I can feel the thumps of your feet or knees up around my ribs.  Thankfully, it's not the horror stories of pain!

Dear Mother: even though you rarely read my blog, thank you for being so compassionate today.  It's not a usual state of emotion, at least not to show your compassion, but I am SO appreciative of it

Dear Life: You're about to get CRAZY busy, we move in one week!  That same weekend, J is in his uncle's wedding, so we MUST get moved on Saturday since the wedding is Sunday.  The following weekend is the family baby shower, and by that point, we'll be ending childbirth classes and starting weekly Dr appointments.  Holy cow

Dear Self: Just maintain your current level of anxiety, do not get more anxious!!

Dear Husband: Thank you so much for putting up with my pregnant crazies.  You're amazing, and the best.

31 Weeks

31 Weeks
Um...we're in single digit weeks now?!

Ha, not sure what that face is about!
I woke up that morning and asked J, "Where did this belly come from?!"
How far along are you?
31 Weeks

Total weight gain:
I'm not loving it, but not too much I'm told

How big is baby?:
What to Expect  still says a head of lettuce, but changed the length and weight! (19" 3.9lbs...that's one HUGE head of lettuce).  Apparently, Pierce should start gaining half a pound a week from here on out!  Holy big baby!
source
Maternity clothes
always...the closer it gets to my due date the less I want to spend any more money on anything new

Stretch marks?:
So far, only on my hiney
I've been applying Palmers Cocoa Butter religiously...hoping that helps matters

Sleep?:
It really just depends.  I toss and turn best I can until I fall asleep, usually wake up an hour or two later to pee, then I'm back to sleep for quite a while usually

Best moment this week?:
Relaxing on my 4 day weekend.  I think Pierce needed it as much as I did!

Movement?:
J's getting to see and feel more of it, which is amazing to watch his reactions to his son's movement.

Food cravings?:
nothing that I can think of, other than anything cold because of this heat!

Food aversions?:
Not too bad, kind of depends on the day,
I've started not wanting meat on occasion...no bueno considering that's protein and iron

Labor signs?:
NO!  Just Braxton-Hicks every day since Monday.  No pain with them, I just notice that my stomach is hard as a ROCK!

Belly button in or out?:
Still in, but it's either going to end up flat or out by the end of this 9 weeks!

What I miss:
sleeping WELL, and not being tired all of the time and congested...
I'm constantly congested
I'm starting to miss my pre-pregnancy body and walking without a waddle!

What I'm looking forward to:
Moving next weekend!!  I can't physically move anything, but moving into our own space, setting up our apartment, Pierce's nursery, I'm stoked!

What I'm not looking forward to:
Labor...we've taken 2 of 4 childbirth classes...last class caused a bit of anxiety.  Seriously, J looked at me and asked if I was about to cry.  They were talking about all of the IVs and urinary caths (neither of those caused the anxiety, had too many surgeries in my lifetime to worry about those), epidurals, shots in my hoohaa area, episiotomies, and enemas...Yeah, I started to freak out.

Milestone:
J starting to see the movement!
